The Zamfara State government has denied borrowing N14.26 billion, alleging that the funds were part of the proceeds of the previous administration’s N20 billion loan.

Sulaiman Bala Idris, the Zamfara governor’s spokesperson, stated that the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal never borrowed domestic or external loans since its start.

“We would like to clarify the Debt Management Office (DMO) report stating that the Zamfara State government borrowed N14.26 billion.

“The Zamfara State Government has never applied for loans or contacted the State Assembly or National Assembly with such a request.

“It is crucial to know that the previous Zamfara state government issued a N20 billion bond but did not collect the full amount.

“The previous administration received N4 billion naira out of the N20 billion loan requested for the Zamfara cargo airport project, but the monies were not used.
