As the world celebrates Earth Day, a group is taking action to prevent the loss of $70 billion due to plastic pollution in Nigeria and other countries.

Eco-Ruppers Africa has launched a campaign to protect Nigeria and other African nations from the devastating effects of plastic pollution, with the goal of saving a staggering US$70 billion. This comes as the world celebrates this year’s United Nations International Mother Earth Day.

Mr. Victor Wilkinson, Africa’s Lead Sustainable Development Partner, said in a statement that the group plans to recruit 250 million volunteers from all 54 African nations to fight plastic pollution.

The program’s stated goal is to launch Africa’s biggest green citizen action campaign by educating, equipping, and sending out environmentally aware adolescents.

With young people and women at the forefront of creating climate-resilient and smart economies, the Eco-Marshalls Project is designed to speed up the action of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ten-year plan.

On September 5, 2024, the non-profit organization Earth Action predicts, the world will experience its plastic overshoot, a day when the amount of plastic garbage created exceeds the capacity of the planet’s waste treatment systems.

In line with the worldwide rallying cry, ECO2RUPPERS Africa urged all stakeholders to “Act Your Part Against Plastic Pollution in Africa” and create a future free of plastic pollution so that future generations can live in better health.
