The Unparalleled Honesty of Onu – Okorie

Chief Chekwas Okorie, the first national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has paid tribute to Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, who passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, as a man of unparalleled honesty, sincerity, and integrity. Onu was the first civilian governor of Abia State and had served as minister of science and technology.

“I wish to state that he was a quintessential gentleman, whose word was his bond.” Okorie reflected on his 41-year acquaintance with Onu in a personally signed statement titled, “Tribute: I Am Unable To Say Goodbye To Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.”

Any deal reached with Onu would be acceptable, according to the former APGA chairman, who went on to say that the late governor would have approved of either a written or verbal agreement.

Dr. Onu possessed unparalleled honesty, sincerity, and integrity. His lack of arrogance was reassuring. The persona of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu was completely devoid of vices like excessive ambition and betrayal.

“When he was a member of the Board of Directors of Nigercem Nkalagu, now in Ebonyi State,” Okorie recalled meeting Onu, “a brilliant, self-effacing, and consummate academic,” 41 years ago. Okorie also has the title of Ojeozi Ndigbo.
