Retired Akeredolu Finance Commissioner Akinterinwa Accepts Invitation from EFCC

Wale Akinterinwa will be a guest of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) this Thursday, just days after he participated as an aspirant in the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) direct governorship primary election in Ondo State.

While Governor Rotimi Akeredolu was in office, Akinterinwa served as Commissioner for Finance for Ondo State.

The governorship candidate, Akinterinwa, denied the report and took to his X handle (formerly Twitter) on Thursday morning to announce that he is prepared to honor the EFCC’s invitation this Thursday, despite a national daily (not LEADERSHIP) reporting that he had visited the EFCC office last week in response to an invitation to explain certain Ondo State government transactions totaling billions of Naira and that he had been detained over the weekend during the APC governorship primary election.

Today, I will be responding to the EFCC’s call to provide further information on certain issues that the agency is seeking clarification on, Akinterinwa stated in his letter. Justice will be served because I trust the anti-graft agency to investigate thoroughly.

Remembers that Akinterinwa was Commissioner for more over seven years till the State Executive Council (SEC) was disbanded by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who replaced Governor Akeredolu.

Following Akeredolu’s passing in December 2023, Akinterinwa made an announcement stating that his late principal had intended for him to be the next governor of Ondo State in the 2024 election.
