Military probe into civilian staff member’s death commences in Nigerian Navy

An investigation into the death of Mr. Ifeanyi Onumaegbu, a civilian staff member of the Nigerian Navy (NN), has been initiated, according to the navy.

This declaration was made on Thursday in Lagos by Vice-Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff.

Ojo, Lagos is home to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital (NNRH), where Onumaegbu was employed, he said.

The individual who passed away was a civilian employee of the Ministry of Defense who had been affiliated to the Laboratory Department of the NNRH since 2009, he said.

The loss of Mr. Ifeanyi Onumaegbu and the events leading up to his passing have left the navy in profound sorrow.

His body was discovered in his NNRH office on March 31.

A woman and several NN soldiers were involved in an altercation in Navy Town Barracks on March 26, according to a preliminary inquiry, he added.
