Ondo State APC gubernatorial candidate Jimi Odimayo has cautioned the party against choosing an unfit candidate for the upcoming election, saying that the state cannot support two consecutive eight-year terms in office.

A candidate representing the Southern Senatorial District of the state is eagerly sought after by the people, according to Odimayo, who is currently the Chairman of the House Committee on Population in the House of Representatives. The people of the district are eager to begin serving two eight-year terms as governor beginning on February 24, 2025.

The legislator warned the party’s national leadership against selecting the incorrect candidate for the upcoming governorship election while speaking to reporters at the NUJ Press Centre in Akure, where he formally declared his desire to contest for the race.

Odimayo made the observation that it would be fair for any candidate for governor who is legally barred from serving more than one eight-year term to give up on his ambitions for the sake of the Ondo South Senatorial District.

When it comes to the next election, we won’t be able to support somebody who isn’t up to the challenge, particularly if they aren’t willing to serve eight years. People are watching, so our leaders shouldn’t be sentimental.

We in the South will make sure the APC doesn’t turn forth any dubious or opposition-friendly candidates. As a party, we will tackle our problems; the APC is the most popular political party in Ondo State.
