The Edo State governorship election will take place on September 21, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that the final list of candidates will be published.
Sam Olumekun, a member of the Information and Voter Education Committee and the national commissioner of INEC, made the announcement yesterday.

As stated in articles 8 and 12 of the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the election, Olumekun announced that political parties can begin publicly campaigning on Wednesday, April 24, and conclude at midnight on Thursday, September 19, 2024.

The Commission released the personal details of the candidates for governorship and their running mates in its state and local government offices in Edo State following the initial primary, he explained.

By the deadline of 15th April 2024, several political parties have held new primaries to choose new candidates, in accordance with the provisions of Section 33 of the Electoral Act 2022. The candidates and running mates of the Action Alliance (AA) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for governor have been replaced.

“Additionally, the candidates’ running mates were replaced by the African Action Congress (AAC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Boot Party (BP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP),” Olumekun stated.

He claims that seventeen different political groups are fielding candidates for the election, with sixteen men and one woman running.
