The leaders wrote Mark individual statements in which they lauded his integrity and consistency throughout the years.
His previous superior, the president of the military, Ibrahim Babangida, praised Mark as an officer who worked tirelessly to achieve his goals and was known as a gentleman and a brilliant officer.
“Mark epitomises an inimitable example of a thorough-bred army general who has made a name for himself in both the military and democratic administration,” declared Babangida.
In the course of carrying out his duties, he observed that Mark had shown what it means to be courageous in nearly impossible circumstances.
