Concerns Voiced by NRM Over the Status of Arrested Rivers Chieftain

Posted by

The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has strongly denounced the “unwarranted circumstances” that resulted in the arrest of High Chief Sobomabo Jackrich Egberipapa, the party chieftain, at his residence in Usokun, Degema local government area, Rivers State.

Additionally, the party requested that President Bola Tinubu summon Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (CAS), and all security agencies to disclose Egberipapa’s location.

In a statement, Sola Afuye, the party’s national press secretary, said that the ‘Gestapo operation’ took place at approximately 3:00 in the morning on Monday, while the residents of the area were still asleep. The group claimed that the Nigerian military was named in the report by the Rivers State Police Command.

The fact that one of our own is experiencing such abuse without being able to exercise his basic human rights is terrifying and unsettling. That High Chief Sobomabo Jackrich Egberipapa’s location remains a mystery is the most heartbreaking aspect of all of this.

We, the undersigned political group, are formally requesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR order the disclosure of High Chief Jackrich Egberipapa’s whereabouts by commanding Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja and other relevant security agencies.

Even though our nation desperately needs a peaceful resolution to its economic crisis, we have decided to address this horrible issue civilly and avoid making politics out of it. Our number one priority is getting Chief Sobomabo Jackrich Egberipapa released so he may be with his loved ones again.

We pray this is not another instance of human rights abuse by our security forces, which are sworn to defend the lives and property of all citizens regardless of their family’s socioeconomic status. “As a law-abiding political party that emphasizes peace and the rule of law, we firmly believe that standard operating procedure should be adhered to at all times in conjunction with the rules of engagement,” the statement reads in part.
