According to the authorities, South African player Luke Fleurs was fatally shot during a car hijacking

A gas station in the Florida neighborhood of Johannesburg was the scene of the shooting on Wednesday night.

While waiting to be attended to, the 24-year-old star of the Kaizer Chiefs was approached by unidentified gunmen who demanded that he exit the vehicle.

There have been reports that one of the suspects took Fleurs’ car and ran away after the incident.

“The suspects pointed [at] him with a firearm and took him out of his vehicle, then shot him once on the upper body,” local reporters were informed by Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, a spokesperson for the Gauteng police.

His death was characterized as “tragic” by Kaizer Chiefs, one of the most beloved clubs in the nation and a 12-time league champion.
