A Huge Hoax: PDP Claims Ondo APC Governorship Primary

A “huge charade” was the description given by the state chapter of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in response to the controversy that surrounded Saturday’s All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Ondo State.

Kennedy Peretei, the PDP’s publicity secretary, made a statement on Saturday stating that the ruling APC’s inability to organize a genuine primary election for its members clearly shown that it cannot manage the state’s affairs.

Usman Ododo, the governor of Kogi State and head of the seven-person APC Electoral Committee that oversaw the primary election, is said by the PDP to have wreaked greater mayhem than Yahaya Bello, whose predecessor had chaired the same primary in the state four years prior.

According to Peretei, the much-touted All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primary in Ondo State was nothing more than a massive farce and an affront to democracy in every way.

The same thing happened four years earlier in Akure during an event presided over by Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State who is now wanted by the EFCC for a fraud involving N85 billion. during that time, none of the candidates had seen the list of delegates before the primary.

It was unclear if the primary would be direct or indirect as of the morning of the poll. As a result of that process, the APC nominated Rotimi Akeredolu, a former governor, to run for governor in 2020.
