17-Year-Old Boy Arrested by Police in Connection with Teenage Lover’s Death at Bayelsa Hotel

The 17-year-old Lucky Okubo has been apprehended by agents of the Bayelsa State Police Command on suspicion of the murder of Shallon Ebitare, a resident of Yenagoa’s Akaibiri Community and his 14-year-old girlfriend.

A covert inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the adolescent girl’s murder in a Yenagoa hotel was ordered by Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State Command, Alonyenu Francis Idu, according to a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Musa Mohammed.

After being interrogated, the suspect—who was apprehended by officers from the Ekeki Divisional Police Headquarters—confessed to having sexual relations with the dead in a motel.

The victim allegedly went to the restroom to take a bath but fell, injuring herself, according to Mohammed’s account of the incident. The following day, he summoned the hotel manager, who helped transport the body to FMC, Yenagoa, where a doctor on staff verified the death.

The cause of death is still under investigation, however the suspect is currently in prison at the SCID, Yenagoa.

“Please stay calm and vigilant. If you see anything suspicious, please report it to the nearest police station or call the command control emergency numbers. This is a message from the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command.”
