Trial of Ex-Governor Ahmed: PDP Claims EFCC Misled Public

Posted by

Kwara State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the EFCC of sensationalism and blackmail over its accusations against former governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
“The total amount in the 12-count charge leveled against the former governor by the EFCC is a little above N1.6 billion which the then government legitimately paid to service provider as travel expenses,” the party said in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Olusegun Adewara.

Notably, none of the twelve claims against Dr. Ahmed involved the purported transfer of funds to other lawful government entities; not a single one of those funds was paid or diverted to the personal accounts of the former governor or his collaborators.

“So, among other things, our party has kept voicing its concerns about the suspicious behavior of the EFCC’s North Central command, which seems to have volunteered to be used by the APC-led government in Kwara state,” the opposition group said.
Demola Banu, a former commissioner for finance, was wanted for “the same offence which the agency had willingly withdrew from the same court,” according to the PDP’s accusations that the EFCC inflated Banu’s alleged guilt.

After the Federal High Court discharged Banu, the party maintained that he had not been re-invited.
